In developing

Skin
Care Product Research
Skin care products
are expected to
provide not just
moisturizing properties
but also beautiful
and supple, moist
and youthful skin.
Safety of the
product and pleasantness
on application
are also important.
To meet those
requirements,
KOSÉ applied
the conclusions
of our dermatological
research to the
basic colloid
and interface
sciences of emulsification,
solubilization
and dispersion
technologies.
The result was
a moisturizing
and highly effective
skin care products
by KOSÉ,
made possible
by applying technology
that enables stable
blending of skin
whitening ingredients
with those that
address skin-related
problems, as well
as nanotechnology
that maximizes
the efficacy of

Research
Typical hair
care products
include shampoo
that cleanses
and moisturizes
the hair and
scalp, and conditioner
that repairs
damaged hair.
KOSÉ,
through its
original research
and evaluation
technology,
has also developed
a range of quality
hair care products.
Hair care products
are expected
to provide suppleness
and moist feeling
on combing.
Through the
development
of hair care
ingredients
containing new
silicone compounds,

Developing
Overseas Markets with KOSÉ’s
Original Brand Marketing
KOSÉ established overseas
expansion as a major business
strategy and, since opening
its first overseas office in
Hong Kong in 1968, has continued
to develop its operations and
now has presence in 12 countries
and regions. |

Business Expansion in the Asian
and American Markets
Overseas sales increased 17%
year on year due to the business
expansion in China, Taiwan and
South Korea.
KOSÉ will continue to
expand its overseas operations
through our unique brand marketing,
in response to evolving market
trends in different countries.

CHINA
Sales through the department
store channel have produced
strong results in China, rising
23% in the year ended March
31, 2007 over the previous year,
with sales of SEKKISEI and BEAUTÉ
de KOSÉ particularly
strong. In recognition of the
outstanding quality of our products
KOSÉ received “The
Most Trustworthy Brands Award”.

TAIWAN
The popularity of ASTALUTION,
launched in autumn 2006, drove
sales in Taiwan, resulting in
an 8% increase in sales during
this fiscal year. COSME DECORTE’s
MOISTURE LIPOSOME and FASIO
mascaras remain extremely popular
and are selling strongly.

SOUTH KOREA
Excellent sales performance
through both the department
store and specialty cosmetics
store channels in South Korea
recorded a significant sales
increase by 76% in the year
ended March 31, 2007. Sales
of COSME DECORTE were strong
through the department store
channel, in particular the AQ
Series - COSME DECORTE’s
peerless luxury line - and MOISTURE
LIPOSOME. Sales of the MOISTURE
SKIN REPAIR drove the continuing
growth in sales through the
specialty cosmetics store channel.

UNITED
STATES
KOSÉ entered the American
market in 1997 where it has
placed the international strategic
brand AWAKE in high-end department
stores such as Henri Bendel
and Neiman Marcus in New York.
Moreover, KOSÉ will strengthen
the promotion of SEKKISEI through
new sales channels developed
by a major fashion retailer.

Achieving
normalization
KOSÉ has long been promoting
employment for people with disabilities.
Accordingly in 1992, we established
ADVANCE CO., LTD. which a year
later was duly certified as
a special subsidiary. ADVANCE,
like KOSÉ, is an independent
cosmetics manufacturer with
facilities designed to enable
individuals with disabilities
to work shoulder to shoulder
with others who have no apparent
disability. At present, about
27% of its employees have severe
disabilities and another 23%
with less severity.
ADVANCE plants are equipped
with signs in braille blocks,
handrails in the passages and
emergency lights and buzzers,
so that everyone can work safely.
True to the KOSÉ mission
of “delivering customers
cosmetics of highest quality”,
ADVANCE has adopted 5 principles
of conduct to ensure that the
workplace has the same high
standards as its parent company.
Based on this policy, the same
management of the entire process
has been adopted as that employed
in the manufacturing department
of KOSÉ itself. It was
with the same zeal and commitment
that ADVANCE employees strove
to win ISO 9001 certification
for quality and environment.
In 1998, ISO9001 certification
has been awarded for quality
assurance and in 2003, ISO 14001
for environment management.
ADVANCE CO., LTD. continues
to report robust financial results,
backed by sound management.
KOSÉ has rightly won
recognition for this program
and has received a number of
honors including the Minister
of Labor Award. |

Supporting arts, sciences and
sports
KOSÉ is a strong supporter
of arts, sciences and sports
as part of our contribution
to society. For example, seeing
how sports illuminate the beauty
in athletes, we have taken pride
in supporting women in various
athletic events. Having concluded
an official partner agreement
with the Japan Skating Federation
in 2006, KOSÉ will serve
in this role through the 2010
Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,
and also support the synchronized
Japanese swimming team as its
official cosmetic partner at
the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
KOSÉ, moreover, has been
a faithful supporter of the
Leningrad Ballet’s performances
in Japan since 1998.
KOSÉ also proudly supports
the activities of the Cosmetology
Research Foundation, established
in 1990 by our founder Kozaburo
Kobayashi, dedicated to progress
in cosmetic science.
